hal atāka ḥadīṡul-gāsyiyah
HAS NEWS OF the Overpowering Event reached you?
wujụhuy yauma`iżin khāsyi'ah
Many faces will be contrite on that day
'āmilatun nāṣibah
Labouring wearied out
taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyah
Burning in the scorching fire
tusqā min 'ainin āniyah
Given water from the boiling spring to drink.
laisa lahum ṭa'āmun illā min ḍarī'
They will have no food except bitter thorn
lā yusminu wa lā yugnī min jụ'
Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger.
wujụhuy yauma`iżin nā'imah
Many faces will be joyous on that day
lisa'yihā rāḍiyah
Well-pleased with their endeavour
fī jannatin 'āliyah
In the high empyrean
lā tasma'u fīhā lāgiyah
Never hearing idle talk.
fīhā 'ainun jāriyah
There is a stream of running water in it;
fīhā sururum marfụ'ah
And within it are couches placed on high
wa akwābum mauḍụ'ah
Goblets set
wa namāriqu maṣfụfah
Cushions arranged
wa zarābiyyu mabṡụṡah
And rich carpets spread.
a fa lā yanẓurụna ilal-ibili kaifa khuliqat
Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed;
wa ilas-samā`i kaifa rufi'at
And the heavens how it was raised high;
wa ilal-jibāli kaifa nuṣibat
And the mountains how they were fixed;
wa ilal-arḍi kaifa suṭiḥat
And the earth how it was spread out?
fa żakkir, innamā anta mużakkir
Remind them; you are surely a reminder.
lasta 'alaihim bimuṣaiṭir
You are not a warden over them
illā man tawallā wa kafar
Other than him who turns his back and denies
fa yu'ażżibuhullāhul-'ażābal-akbar
In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment.
inna ilainā iyābahum
To Us is surely their returning;
ṡumma inna 'alainā ḥisābahum
Ours is surely then to reckon with them.
