7 UlasanShare
wan-najmi iżā hawā
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped
mā ḍalla ṣāḥibukum wa mā gawā
That your companion is not confused nor has he gone astray
wa mā yanṭiqu 'anil-hawā
Neither does he speak of his own will.
in huwa illā waḥyuy yụḥā
This is only revelation communicated
'allamahụ syadīdul-quwā
Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect
żụ mirrah, fastawā
Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance
wa huwa bil-ufuqil-a'lā
And reached the highest pinnacle.
ṡumma danā fa tadallā
Then he drew near and drew closer
fa kāna qāba qausaini au adnā
Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained
fa auḥā ilā 'abdihī mā auḥā
When He revealed to His votary what He revealed.
mā każabal-fu`ādu mā ra`ā
His heart did not falsify what he perceived.
a fa tumārụnahụ 'alā mā yarā
Will you dispute with him what he saw?
wa laqad ra`āhu nazlatan ukhrā
He saw Him indeed another time
'inda sidratil-muntahā
By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass
'indahā jannatul-ma`wā
Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility
iż yagsyas-sidrata mā yagsyā
When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over;
mā zāgal-baṣaru wa mā ṭagā
Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds.
laqad ra`ā min āyāti rabbihil-kubrā
Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord.
a fa ra`aitumul-lāta wal-'uzzā
Have you considered Lat and ´Uzza
wa manātaṡ-ṡāliṡatal-ukhrā
And Manat the other third (of the pagan deities)?
a lakumuż-żakaru wa lahul-unṡā
Are there sons for you and daughters for Him?
tilka iżang qismatun ḍīzā
This is certainly an unjust apportioning.
in hiya illā asmā`un sammaitumụhā antum wa ābā`ukum mā anzalallāhu bihā min sulṭān, iy yattabi'ụna illaẓ-ẓanna wa mā tahwal-anfus, wa laqad jā`ahum mir rabbihimul-hudā
These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord.
am lil-insāni mā tamannā
Can ever man get what he desires?
fa lillāhil-ākhiratu wal-ụlā
To God belong the End and the Beginning.
wa kam mim malakin fis-samāwāti lā tugnī syafā'atuhum syai`an illā mim ba'di ay ya`żanallāhu limay yasyā`u wa yarḍā
Many as the angels be in heaven their intercession will not avail in the least without God´s permission for whomsoever He please and approve.
innallażīna lā yu`minụna bil-ākhirati layusammụnal-malā`ikata tasmiyatal-unṡā
Those who do not believe in the Hereafter give the angels names of females.
wa mā lahum bihī min 'ilm, iy yattabi'ụna illaẓ-ẓanna wa innaẓ-ẓanna lā yugnī minal-ḥaqqi syai`ā
Yet they have no knowledge of this and follow nothing but conjecture but conjecture cannot replace the truth.
fa a'riḍ 'am man tawallā 'an żikrinā wa lam yurid illal-ḥayātad-dun-yā
So you turn away from him who turns away from Our rememberance and wants nothing but the life of this world:
żālika mablaguhum minal-'ilm, inna rabbaka huwa a'lamu biman ḍalla 'an sabīlihī wa huwa a'lamu bimanihtadā
This is the farthest limit of their knowledge. Surely your Lord alone knows best who has strayed away from the path and who has come to guidance.
wa lillāhi mā fis-samāwāti wa mā fil-arḍ, liyajziyallażīna asā`ụ bimā 'amilụ wa yajziyallażīna aḥsanụ bil-ḥusnā
To God belongs whatever is in the heavens and the earth that He may requite those who do evil in accordance with their deeds and those who do good with good.
allażīna yajtanibụna kabā`iral-iṡmi wal-fawāḥisya illal-lamama inna rabbaka wāsi'ul-magfirah, huwa a'lamu bikum iż ansya`akum minal-arḍi wa iż antum ajinnatun fī buṭụni ummahātikum, fa lā tuzakkū anfusakum, huwa a'lamu bimanittaqā
As for those who avoid the greater sins and shameful acts except minor trespasses your Lord´s forgiveness surely has great amplitude. He is fully knowledgeable of you as He produced you from the earth and since you were a foetus in your mother´s womb. So do not assert your goodness; he is better who takes heed and preserves himself.
a fa ra`aitallażī tawallā
Have you seen him who turns his back
wa a'ṭā qalīlaw wa akdā
Who gives but little and is niggardly?
a 'indahụ 'ilmul-gaibi fa huwa yarā
Has he knowledge of the Unknown that he perceives everything?
am lam yunabba` bimā fī ṣuḥufi mụsā
Has he not heard what is contained in the Book of Moses
wa ibrāhīmallażī waffā
And of Abraham who fulfilled his trust? --
allā taziru wāziratuw wizra ukhrā
That no one who carries a burden bears another´s load;
wa al laisa lil-insāni illā mā sa'ā
That a man receives but only that for which he strives;
wa anna sa'yahụ saufa yurā
That his endeavours will be judged
ṡumma yujzāhul-jazā`al-aufā
And only then will he receive his recompense in full;
wa anna ilā rabbikal-muntahā
And that to your Lord is your returning;
wa annahụ huwa aḍ-ḥaka wa abkā
That it is He who makes you happy and morose
wa annahụ huwa amāta wa aḥyā
And He who ordains death and life;
wa annahụ khalaqaz-zaujainiż-żakara wal-unṡā
That He created pairs male and female
min nuṭfatin iżā tumnā
From a drop of semen when emitted;
wa anna 'alaihin-nasy`atal-ukhrā
That the second creation is incumbent on Him;
wa annahụ huwa agnā wa aqnā
That it is He who makes you rich and contented;
wa annahụ huwa rabbusy-syi'rā
That He is the Lord of Sirius;
wa annahū ahlaka 'ādanil-ụlā
That it was He who destroyed the ´Ad of old
wa ṡamụda fa mā abqā
And Thamud and did not leave them
wa qauma nụḥim ming qabl, innahum kānụ hum aẓlama wa aṭgā
Like the people of Noah before them who were surely oppressors and rebellious;
wal-mu`tafikata ahwā
And He overthrew the Cities of the Plain
fa gasysyāhā mā gasysyā
So that they were covered over by what they were covered over.
fa bi`ayyi ālā`i rabbika tatamārā
How many favours of your Lord will you then deny?
hāżā nażīrum minan-nużuril-ụlā
He who warns you is one of the warners of old.
azifatil-āzifah
What is to come is imminent.
laisa lahā min dụnillāhi kāsyifah
There is no one to unveil it apart from God.
a fa min hāżal-ḥadīṡi ta'jabụn
Are you astonished at this news
wa taḍ-ḥakụna wa lā tabkụn
And keep laughing and do not weep
wa antum sāmidụn
Indulging in pleasantries?
fasjudụ lillāhi wa'budụ
Bow instead in adoration before God and worship Him.
